Proverbs 24:16 says, “For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises again, But the wicked stumble in time of disaster and collapse.”

I stumble and fail often it seems. I trust myself these days to make a succesful rise that doesn’t take days or weeks. I do it because I am learning the unconditional love of Father God. For years I only talked to Jesus because he is a “friend.” I could do a God that was a friend. A father figure? Get outta town!

But I always remember the words of Jesus when he said, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.” They are the same.

This revelation reveals the eternal love of a God who isn’t cruel like my natural dad was. If I made a mistake, a minor infraction, I was mandated to earn back his “favor” by dueling battles with him of rejection or hate. After a requisite time of his disfavor he’d actually tell me, “your slate is clean now.” WTF! Undoing that condemning relationship has taken most of my life.

Today I grant myself grace. I give myself God’s unmerited favor. Not because I earned it, but because it is His gift.
