Words of Wisdom | Retribution

Retribution is the act of taking revenge. I’ve never sought much in the way of revenge, I’ve mostly aimed to hurt myself. While I’m learning to put myself in a much higher esteem, I will not begin the acts of seeking retribution.

I never really have. Justice is my goal and justice I will seek. All the days of my life, but revenge? Never and I’ll tell you why.

Proverbs 3 says it best:

31 Do not envy the violent
or choose any of their ways.

If I were to seek revenge, wouldn’t I be like those that I came through. The way I see it someone had to have hurt them for their heart to become so callous and carefree in the way they harmed children. I don’t want to be like them — not in any way, shape or form.

That Proverb continues with:

32 For the Lord detests the perverse
but takes the upright into his confidence.
33 The Lord’s curse is on the house of the wicked,
but he blesses the home of the righteous.

In the Bible, the word “perverse” can refer to people who are involved in moral error. The word “perverse” is translated from one Greek and several Hebrew terms that literally mean “bent,” “crooked,” or “twisted”.

I want the confidence of God, his discipline, his instruction. Retribution has no part there. Do I deserve justice for the crimes against me and my children? I certainly do but I will leave that in the hands of a great big God who cares deeply about justice.

He’s got this. I’m going to leave that curse behind me and allow room for him to bless my home.
