Justice Delayed Is Still Justice

Justice is a hard one for victims of crimes. What does it really mean? How does justice play out in our lives?

When does justice truly happen?

My father got away with murder. He’s gone now, but that crime lives on. Do the police truly care about a 50-year-old murder? I don’t think so. If they cared, wouldn’t they have done more to see that justice was served and the woman’s remains be returned to her family for a proper burial?

What about the sexual abuse my children endured at the hand’s of their father. We went to the police. Justice was not served. He passed a lie detector test, the police literally told me it was just touching and not rape, and that it happened a time long ago. Case closed.

When is justice served?

I’ve walked through a lot of life in my years here on earth and there is no justice in the eyes of most strangers, either. When you tell them your life story, they want to get away from you as fast as possible. Like somehow my tainted story will tarnish them. They act somewhat like I must be bad to have endured it all.

That certainly isn’t justice.

Those folks just tell you, “God would want you to get over it.”

Where does justice live? What does it look like?

I don’t have all the answers but I do know this — justice is a peaceful nights sleep. Justice allows me to dream of tomorrow, because I know God lives there. He is my witness. In fact, He truly is the only witness I need.

Justice is in His mighty hands. He speaks to the thunder bolts and they obey Him. I am more than certain that if justice is not served this side of heaven, it’s waiting for these offenders on the other side.

Until then, I will do my best to live my life to it’s full extent. To help my children and their children do the same.

God is good. He didn’t want these crimes to happen to you. Justice has the final word.
