Fear Not Friday | Do you fear God?

In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence .

Ephesians 3:12

That is a very hard concept for me.

Approaching my earthly father was miserable. It was a relationship built on maniuplation and lies. Pain and suffering was at the core of my fatherly relationship so how now am I able to seek a Heavenly Father with bold confidence?

The issue is with me, I know. It’s still difficult.

If I do everything “right” for the week, I suppose I feel pretty good to come to God in prayer. If, however, I’ve messed up during the week, had that one extra glass of wine, I want to hide for a bit. Hmmm….what about this passage then?

If I am a fellow believer in the gift God gave us through his son Jesus Christ, I’m free of guilt and condemantion. Why then this struggle within me?

In relationship with my earthly father, when I did something wrong, I knew I could manipulate the situation and he’d go easy on me (well, kinda of). He knew I was manipulating him because he taught me manipulation and lying as a way of life but he took pride when I used those tools well.

With God I know he knows all things. I’m actually glad he does! That’s a solid protection he delivers.

How then do I come to him in full accountability and truth? In perfect love! That’s how I’ll do it.

God is not going to punish me so there is no need for any manipulation!
